Brisa Del Mar was designed to support a lifestyle that works in harmony with the natural landscape, taking advantage of the amazing climate that exists in this area of the Santa Cruz mountains. The idea was to create a place where kids could explore the natural environment and be immersed in it even while inside the home. We created a home that is visually tied to the landscape but is also represented in a tactile way. The home utilizes rammed earth construction to root in the site, which harkens back to Dan and Dan’s studies at the University of Arizona, and is applicable in this environment. The design consists of a large covered outdoor living space to provide interior comforts while being surrounded by nature.
