MY FAVORITE HOBBIES

Being raised in Santa Cruz really lit a passion for the beach. Often on a warm day you can find me in the water or relaxing on the beach. In my downtime I like to play video games, which help to activate my brain and keep my ADD at bay, it also helps bring out my competitive side!

MY FAVORITE BUILDING

My favorite architectural work is Tomba Brion in Altivole, Italy, which is a masterpiece of concrete and landscape which perfectly blends contemporary materials with raw emotion. Carlo Scarpa created a place where you can both feel solemn but also welcomed, not often seen in typical Cemeteries. Gone is the raw row of tomb stones and in front of you is a mausoleum that acts as a procession throughout the space, allowing you to view through circular red and blue portals. On top of this the play with light and dark is phenomenal.

WHY DO LOVE WHAT I DO

I love exploring works of art. Architecture is unique because you get to experience art in a way that is both shared by everyone, yet also exclusive. Working in the field gives you a special insight into buildings that adds a deeper layer to the craft. The best shared experience of this was the 7132 Therme, or the Thermal Baths in Vals, as Peter Zumthor created an experience that was egalitarian and originally not for anybody but the people of Vals, but due to his commitment to quality and beauty it became a central attraction. Being in architecture allowed me to appreciate the architectural features which help guide people throughout the building and the phenomenal use of all of the human senses, which the building takes advantage of.

MY CLIFFNOTE BIO

Growing up in Santa Cruz, I always knew I wouldn’t be leaving. I'm a First Generation Half-Vietnamese American and my two loves in life are the beach and my cats. I wish we had a good Pho & Bahn Mi place on this side of the hill and I enjoy the feeling of driving with my windows down, but I can’t stand those slow drivers on 17 (don’t get in between me and my pho)! Also, Sco Ducks!
