We were originally commissioned to design a multi-level home and guest house on a beautiful property in the Santa Cruz Mountains, with distant views of the Monterey Bay. The final design was scaled down to a smaller two bedroom vacation home that would provide a mountain escape from the city life. The house was designed to take in the surrounding environment while providing a low maintenance home that could be worry free while not being used. We installed two sets of 10 feet tall by 16 feet wide exterior barn sliding doors on opposite sides of the house. When opened, one experiences complete immersion in the surrounding environment. Using corten (A606) steel for the exterior siding served to fulfill the requirement of a no maintenance façade, which evolves naturally to a beautiful rusty orange/red patina. This project was a catalyst for Fuse, as we were hired to provide a complete design build package. Our clients wanted someone that could take responsibility for the execution of the design as it was intended and had faith in Fuse to do just that.
