On a hilly site in the woods above Valencia Creek, this home hugs the terrain to set up views through the trees toward Monterey Bay. Pivoting garage doors open the living space out into the landscape, while a glass-walled hallway provides a sensation of walking through the woods on the way to the master bedroom. The exterior features a composition of projecting horizontal massings that step up the ridgeline, clad in a low maintenance palette of metal, wood, and concrete that enhances the connection between the house and its surroundings.
