This Los Gatos renovation was designed to capture the amazing views of the Santa Cruz mountains which present themselves on the opposite south side of a valley. The existing house on their land had low overhanging eaves on the south elevation that blocked natural light and limited the views. Our clients desired the new portion of the house to be full of daylight. The owners also wanted to ensure the design incorporated a no maintenance exterior, so Swiss Pearl fiber cement panels were chosen as the cladding. These utilize a rain-screen system that keeps the house cooler in the summer and is constructed with a breathable barrier between the siding and the waterproofing. This system is maintenance-free, as it required no painting or staining. An ideal choice for harsh mountain weather, simply wiping off the dust as necessary keeps the panels pristine for decades.
