It’s not every day that we’re asked to design a barn. Due to its many unique features, this building tends to generate an abundance of attention. As an integral part of the Black Ridge Vineyard Estates, this barn was designed to house our client’s stable of vehicles including showpiece racecars and a full size RV/coach. As the parents of the 41 house owner, the clients used their comfortable RV to travel across the country to watch their son race. The space is also well suited to host events including wine tastings, weddings, an annual harvest festival or any sizeable gathering. During the design phase, principal architects Dan and Dan integrated an upper floor system within the custom trusses. This created a bonus loft space that oversees the collection of cars below. The barn has no vertical supports within the 60’ x 90’ footprint, leaving a vast expanse clear of any structural impediment. Once completed, the final design was extremely enjoyable in terms of quality of materials, structural innovations and client (as well as designer!) satisfaction. If you are interested in joining Black Ridge Vineyards wine club or visiting the barn, be sure to check out their website at blackridgevineyards.com.
